Any idea what we made these hinges for?
Each month we’ll be asking for you to give Scott your best guess as to what is pictured or what it's used for.  We think it will be fun and give you a chance to have lunch on Scott!

Say, what's this?  If you know, contact Scott at sstewart@askrandd.com or (678) 516-0250.  This month's image is no simple hinge because it has an application that may be of interest to those who know ASK.  Good luck!

Multi-Million $ Aircraft Project Crunch for a Gold Shower Assembly

Few can wash in a gold shower.
Gold-plated latch assembly.
It goes without saying that time is money. Design Engineer Zach Griggs of AeroQuest had a challenging problem involving a complex geometric gold shower door latch assembly for an aircraft interior project.

A client of AeroQuest wanted a gold shower as part of the aircraft's top shelf interior. To make that happen, Zach and the production team led by Vitaly Bratnicohenko quickly needed a shower latch assembly for a batch run at a gold plating company.

For the project to be successful, complex shapes with a highly cosmetic finish would have to be handled multiple times. With two assemblies needed quickly, it was important that ASK R&D work closely with Zach and his team. In doing so, a few changes were made to the original design that saved time and money.  Zach shared recently, “ASK R&D is one of the few suppliers where we can expect quality parts delivered ahead of schedule! Any hiccups are handled as if we are their only customer.”

The fully certified components were made of 6061 T6 aluminum and 304 stainless steel to meet strict aircraft compliance requirements. Completing the project on time and on budget, the latch assembly was installed by AeroQuest. We are pleased to say the plane’s owner is quite proud of the gold shower.

From the team at ASK R&D, we look forward to sharing more stories about projects that walk in our door.

Hey, Good Looking!
